How it works

  1. 01

    Pick a track

Five categories, one fresh use case per day per track. Start anywhere — every track is independent.

  2. 02

    Reason it out

Read the scenario. Pick a solution from the lookup. Wrong guess? You unlock a hint with new evidence — like a real diagnostic investigation.

  3. 03

    Solve in five

Five hints max. Solve early for a higher score. Share your result, build your streak, climb the daily leaderboard.

What you unlock with a free account

Guest play works fine for trying it out. Sign-up unlocks the loop that makes a daily game worth coming back to.

  • Streak tracking

Play every day to build your current streak. Personal-best gets a 🔥 banner when you beat it. Guests reset to zero on every browser refresh.

  • Daily + global leaderboard

Every solve goes on the daily leaderboard for that category and the global all-time board. Faster + fewer hints = higher rank.

  • Practice mode for missed days

Missed yesterday's puzzle? Sign-up unlocks practice runs on the last 7 days — same scenarios, no streak penalty, no leaderboard impact.

  • Personal dashboard

Track your win rate, average hints used, hardest categories, and a heatmap of your playing history. All in /dashboard.

  • Skills tracking per category

Each puzzle is tagged with the architectural skills it tests. See which ones you nail and which ones to drill — across AWS, system design, security, and more.

FAQ

Common questions

What is Archdle?

A daily architecture decision puzzle. Each day you get one real-world scenario per category (AWS, Salesforce, ServiceNow, Cybersecurity, System Design). You have five attempts to identify the right architectural solution. Every wrong guess unlocks an evidence-style hint.

Do I need to sign up to play?

No. Guest play works on every device — your progress stays in your browser. Sign-up is free and unlocks streak tracking, the daily + global leaderboard, practice mode for missed days, a personal dashboard, and skills tracking per category.

What do I get with a free account?

Five things, all free: (1) Streak tracking with a personal-best banner; (2) daily and global leaderboards for every category; (3) practice mode to replay the last 7 days without affecting your streak; (4) a personal dashboard with win rate, hint usage, and a play heatmap; (5) skills tracking — every puzzle is tagged with the architectural skills it tests, so you can see which ones you nail and which to drill.

How is this different from a quiz?

Quizzes test recall. Archdle tests decision-making. Each scenario is a small architecture case — symptoms, evidence, trade-offs — and the answer is a real architectural pattern. The hints don't just nudge you toward the answer; they reveal new findings the way a real investigation would.

Where do the puzzles come from?

They're curated from public engineering write-ups, post-mortems, and reference architectures (AWS Blog, post-mortem collections, system-design references, etc.). Every puzzle is reviewed by a human before going live.

When does the daily puzzle reset?

Every day at 00:00 UTC. All players globally get the same puzzle for the day — that's what makes the share grid meaningful.

How is the score calculated?

You start with a maximum score and lose points for each wrong attempt and each hint unlocked. Solve on the first try with no hints for the maximum. The scoring formula is deterministic and identical for everyone.

Can I replay past puzzles?

Yes — you can replay up to the last 7 days of puzzles as "practice runs". Practice plays don't count toward your streak or the leaderboard, but they let you build intuition without competitive pressure.
